In the true sense of the name, Burlingame Phoenix is literally a team reborn. The Phoenix reformed in the spring of 2009, after a group of talented committed players from 5 Bay Area teams came together to play successfully in the 2008 Super Y league. They competed well in this state league and missed qualifying for national finals in Florida by a 1 game differential.
The Phoenix now represents the best of the best in the U15 age group, soon to be U16. In its first official fall season of 2009, the Phoenix dominated and placed 1st in the Abronzino Advanced players league Division 2, and thus qualified for entrance into Division 1 play in the Fall of 2010. Additionally in nearly every tournament entered in 2009, the Phoenix placed either 2nd or were champions. One of the most thrilling championship wins for the Phoenix was the Placer Prestige tournament in Oct 2009. They missed advancing to State Cup this year by a 1 pt differential but they recently tied a local rival who advanced 2 levels and then lost in the semi finals of state cup. Being a re-formed team with an old record preceding them, the Phoenix is still working hard to be invited to premier level tournaments, but because they are building an outstanding new record, this is just a formality.
The Burlingame Phoenix is coached by Burlingame’s Director of Coaching, Dusko Rosic. Best of luck in the Fall of 2010 to the Phoenix who will be playing the new CYSA Northern California league in the top state premier bracket.
